As you point out this seems to make the best use of the joys of an MBA program in three different ways. The first is as you say, the basis of all MBA programs, the nuts and bolts of planning, finance, group working, business plans and so on. All of the subjects that a specialist needs to know to become a general manager.
Then there's the industry specific knowledge, and as you've pointed out there's definitely a trend in MBA programs to do this, to make them industry specific.
The third one is something you've been pointing out a lot, that the networks you create in an MBA program can be of great use in furthering your career.
Looks like this one touches all three bases!
