Online MBA ForumWednesday, November 01, 2006Concept Company
A chatty little item. An associate of mine who finished his MBA at the end of 2005 and who I have been working with on and off this year has finally got his big investment on the way. He started a company off and used his network of fellow students from his MBA program to advise him and become associated with his company.
Thanks to this network he has just received $5 million investment capital and is starting his major marketing operation in Germany and Russia. He received some $.5 million to do proof of concept work, and so he can now go ahead. He is having his products manufactured in China, so this is really a global company. He says that there are six different nationalities involved in his team, including me in New Zealand. There are no central offices, although his marketing team have a virtual office with a centralised communications "desk". A picture of a concept company? How do you select the business school that you want to study your MBA through? There are certain questions that you can use to narrow the choice down. First of all you should decide what mode of study you want to use. Many business schools offer their MBA programs online, but not all and this might rule out some of your choices.
You need to look very carefully at the MBA programs offered. If you want to study with a particular speciality in mind, for instance IT, you need to look at the reputation of the institution in this area, and then take careful note of the professors and their CVs - after all, they will be responsible for the materials delivered and for tutorage, so thier input will affect a great part of what you are studying.
