Chinese MBA

I'm in conversation with a Chinese university about the possibility of offering a joint degree program in Business and in IT. They are looking to do this as a platform for the development of a joint MBA.

There are some really interesting problems associated with joint programs such as this. Personally I prefer to work with single programs, because I believe that the institutions that offer programs and the people who teach on them will only be totally familiar with them and the philosophy behind them if they have developed and now maintain them. This problem is really made worse by the different cultures involved.

In order to overcome these issues, we need to work with the university both here and in China. So if some of my future blogs come from China, you'll know why.

Why do they want to do a joint MBA program? Are they trying to import the technology of how to run such an MBA program? Or is it a cost issue? Obviously, doing much of the teaching within China would reduce costs considerably, most especially living costs for the students (well, for the Chinese students) taking such a program.
I can see the problems as you describe them, can understand the difficulties that might arise, so what is it that is driving the desire to have to overcome such problems?
Is it simply that as a rising nation (or perhaps a rising institution within that nation) the Chinese university simply thinks that it should have an MBA program? But needs help to do so?
