Half-Way Round the World

One of my ex-students wants to take an online MBA, and he is working towards maximizing his GMAT scores. He decided to take some online tutoring to try to improve his scores. To his surprise, he could get tutoring for around a quarter of the price if he accepted a tutor from India.

He is now using someone who has an MBA and two other graduate qualifications, and is paying $25 per hour for the tutor. He says that they are excellent, and he is sure that he will be able to improve his scores this way.

I think I’ve seen something about this. NY Times? Washington Post? In the last day or two, certainly. It wasn’t about an MBA or GMAT, rather an undergraduate who was studying for a statistics exam.
The story sounded a little odd to some commentators as the guy was sweating over his books at 4 am and then got an A grade: most unlikely. It was also said that he was paying $18 an hour. Whether this means that he got a good deal, your MBA friend is getting a bad one or that they charge different amounts for different subjects I don’t know.
But the offshoring of education and tutoring will become more common, of that I am certain.
