MBA Outcomes

So why are MBA graduates seen as being so effective? Well, in part this is a self-selecting process. The people who are motivated to study for an MBA are self-motivating, and can motivate themselves to achieve for their business as well as for themselves.

But the learning process of an MBA also helps. An MBA is counted as a professional degree rather than as an academic degree, implying training in skills as well as the acquision of knowledge. An MBA will help you to think strategically as well as tactically, to work as a leader and to think for the future.

The self-motivating part can be said about many who get advanced degrees of course but I think you’re right about MBAs being different. The whole process of working through case studies as a group helps enormously in the training of how problems are actually approached at the strategic level in business. Which is precisely what you point to in the second part, that an MBA program is more than simply academic study, it’s also direct training in job related skills.
