MBA Degree Programs: The Executive MBA

There are almost as many different MBA degree programs and concentrations as there are business schools. Each MBA degree program offers experiences, skills, and knowledge that can lead to success in the business world. Lets take a look at one of the most popular MBA degree programs and what it offers.

One of the reasons for the popularity of an executive MBA degree program is that you can continue your career while participating in an MBA degree program. An executive MBA degree program requires the same amount of time to complete as a full-time MBA degree program because classes are typically offered during the weekends. The main difference is that most executive MBA degree programs have a minimum work experience requirement and rarely admit candidates without significant management experience.

While an executive MBA degree program is accelerated, the number of classes required is the same as traditional MBA degree programs. Because executive MBA programs are designed for professionals with jobs, families and other constraints on their time, the normal opportunities for networking are limited. Another area where executive MBA degree programs differ from their traditional counterparts is in the offering of MBA specializations or concentrations. Executive MBA degree programs usually focus on general management and rarely extend into other areas of interest such as Information Technology or Risk Management.

Possibly the best reason to enter an executive MBA degree program though is economic. Many companies often sponsor executive MBA degree programs for their employees. Check with your employer to see what types of education they subsidize or sponsor before you leap, though.
