An International MBA Helps Meet the China Challenge

Booming Economy

China is experiencing spectacular economic growth. China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased at 9.5% in 2004. Chinese consumers are buying air conditioners, refrigerators, bigger houses, and automobiles at an amazing pace to really drive this growth. Estimates suggest that there will be 100 million vehicles on the roads in China by 2020 compared to about 24 million today. Energy use in transportation is expected to increase from 33% to 60% of China's total energy use by 2020. Undoubtedly, there are growing business opportunities in China.

More Energy

The current administration under President Hu Jintao has developed a plan to address the rapidly growing energy needs from the explosion of consumer activity. President Hu has called for 30 new nuclear reactors. He has also started efforts to switch to cleaner burning fuels like natural gas. This is an important shift away from the many plants that still burn coal. A more environmentally friendly attitude has also been sparked by the impending 2008 Olympics that will be held in China.
